Who we are

Hunt is run from the United States by an independent developer trading as Hunt ("we", "us"). For our legal name and postal address, for a legal notice or anything else, write to hello@usehunt.dev and we'll send them. These terms are an agreement between you and us, the same party our privacy policy names as the controller. You can reach us at hello@usehunt.dev (for your personal data, privacy@usehunt.dev).

These terms cover:

• the Hunt app at app.usehunt.dev, an invite-only beta that isn't open yet; and
• Hunt's tools that connect to it, such as the browser extension and the command-line connector (@usehunt/cli), as they become available.

Reading usehunt.dev, this website, needs no account and no agreement. These terms bind you once you accept them in the app.

The website tells you what Hunt is. It has no sign-up, no waitlist and no email field. Its invite field only checks, in your browser, that a code has the right shape, and what you type there isn't sent to us or anyone else.

How we handle personal data, on this site and in the app, is in our privacy policy. That includes the Google Analytics this site uses, and that the app will also use, counting visits and screens but never which role, company, fact or email. Please read it alongside these terms.

usehunt.dev is a working domain for the beta. If Hunt's name or domain changes, these terms carry over, and we'll tell you.

The closed beta

Hunt is in closed beta. The app is invite-only and still being built. It isn't open yet, and these terms apply from the day you create an account. That means:

• You need an invite to create an account. Use an invite the way its sender meant it. Don't sell it or post it publicly, and don't pass on an invite that was made for you alone.
• Features will change. They'll arrive, change and sometimes go away. Some things these terms describe as commitments aren't built yet, and where that matters, we say so.
• No uptime promise. Hunt may be slow, have bugs, or be unavailable.
• The beta can end. We may pause or end it. If we end it, you get notice and time to export first (see Leaving, with your data).
• It's provided "as is" and "as available" (see Disclaimers).

During the beta, Hunt is for the job hunt: finding your own next role. Hunt for recruiters and hiring teams (the head hunt, which usehunt.dev previews) isn't open yet. Before it opens, we'll update these terms.

If you send us feedback or ideas, we're free to use them to improve Hunt, without owing you anything for them.

Who can use Hunt

To use Hunt, you must:

• be 18 or older;
• live in the United States, while the beta is limited to it;
• use Hunt for your own job search, as an individual; and
• not be barred from using it by the law that applies to you.

Hunt isn't meant for anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we'll close it and delete its data.

Your account

Your Hunt account has no password. You sign in with GitHub, and other ways (Google, an email code, passkeys) may come later. Hunt will never ask for your GitHub password. If you connect a mailbox, some providers need an app password made just for Hunt (see Your mailbox).

• One person per account. Your account is for you. Don't share it, and don't let anyone else use it.
• Keep it secure. Your GitHub account is the key to your Hunt account, so protect it; two-factor sign-in helps. GitHub's own terms apply to your GitHub account.
• Use a personal login. An employer that manages a login you use could see that you signed in to Hunt, or lock you out.
• Tell us about trouble. If you think someone else got into your account, write to hello@usehunt.dev straight away.

You're responsible for what happens in your account, unless it happened because of something we did wrong.

You accept these terms, and confirm you're 18 or older, by ticking the box that says so before your account is created. We keep a record of which version you accepted and when.

What Hunt does, and what it never does

Hunt helps software developers find their next role. It:

• finds roles on employers' own job boards and careers pages, and in employers' own posts on public hiring threads such as Hacker News' "Who is hiring?";
• vets them against what you're looking for, such as title, pay, remote work and stack;
• tracks your search: what you've saved, applied to and heard back from; and
• drafts answers, cover notes and replies, and helps you prepare applications, all for you to review.

Some things it never does. These are Hunt's promises, and they're part of these terms:

• You press Submit. Hunt drafts, fills and prepares, but it never submits an application or sends a message on your behalf.
• Never email as you. Hunt never sends email as you or through your mailbox. Where it reads your mail, it reads it read-only and drafts replies for you to send yourself. Hunt's own email is limited to sign-in codes and a summary you choose to get.
• Direct applies only. Hunt links each role to the employer's own careers page, application system or own post (such as a Hacker News "Who is hiring?" comment), never a job aggregator or a middleman. If you find one that doesn't, tell us and we'll fix it.
• Never an ad. No ads, no sponsored or boosted listings, no paid placement. No one can pay Hunt to reach you or to move a ranking. Hunt ranks for you only.
• Never invent. Hunt is built never to make up or upgrade anything about you, and to ask what it doesn't know. AI can still slip, so check every draft (see AI output).
• Sensitive stays yours. Hunt never fills in demographic or other sensitive answers for you. The default is "prefer not to answer", and you choose each time.
• Never sold. We don't sell your data or broker it to "partners". The privacy policy explains who handles it for us, and why.

In the job hunt, Hunt is a tool for your own search. It isn't an employer or a recruiter, and it doesn't act for employers.

AI output

Hunt uses AI to find, assess and draft. Its AI features use Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. When you chat in Hunt, you're talking with an AI, not a person. Drafts, summaries, scores and verdicts are written by an AI.

AI can be wrong. What Hunt's AI writes may be false, incomplete, misleading or out of date. A score or a verdict is an opinion about fit, not a fact. Don't rely on any factual statement in Hunt's output without checking it yourself.

Hunt is built never to invent facts about you. It doesn't make up or upgrade your experience, numbers or degrees, and what it doesn't know, it asks. An AI can still get something wrong, so check every draft against the truth before you use it.

You're responsible for what you send

You review everything, and you press Submit. So what you send is yours:

• Everything you submit to an employer must be true, and must be about you.
• Follow each employer's rules for applying, including any rules about using AI.
• Read and correct drafts before you send them. The final words are your responsibility.

When you use Hunt's AI features, you also agree to follow Anthropic's Usage Policy.

As between you and us, the drafts Hunt makes for you are yours: we give you any rights we have in them, to use, change or throw away.

Your content

Your content is what you put into Hunt or ask it to make: your resume, the facts you confirm about yourself, your criteria, notes and drafts, and copies of emails and calendar events from an account you connect.

• It stays yours. We don't claim ownership of it.
• You give us a limited licence, for one purpose: running Hunt for you. We may store, copy and process your content, show it to you, and send it to the providers that run Hunt for us (such as our host and the AI provider that handles your requests). We do that to provide what you ask for, keep Hunt secure and backed up, help you when you ask for support, and meet the law. Never for ads, never to sell, and never to train AI models. The licence is non-exclusive, worldwide and free. It ends when you delete or erase the content, or delete your account, apart from backup copies until they expire (see Leaving, with your data).
• You have the right to put it in. You confirm you're allowed to give us your content, including other people's words in emails from a mailbox you connect. Only connect accounts that are yours.
• Nothing unlawful. Don't put anything into Hunt that's illegal to hold or share.

Hunt's software, design and mark are ours, apart from open-source parts (such as the Geist typeface), which keep their own licences. These terms let you use Hunt; they don't give you ownership of it.

Connected accounts and your AI key

Some features work by connecting an account you own. That provider's own terms apply to that account too, and you can disconnect it at any time.

Your mailbox

Connecting a mailbox to the hosted app isn't available yet. When it is, this is our commitment:

• Hunt reads your mail read-only. It never sends, deletes, moves or marks your mail.
• A mailbox password or token you give Hunt is encrypted, never shown again, and used only for your own work.
• You can keep those credentials on a computer you control instead, through Hunt's connector.
• You can disconnect your mailbox whenever you like.

Your own AI key

Bringing your own AI key (an Anthropic API key) to the app isn't available yet. When it is:

• Your AI usage is billed to you by Anthropic, not by Hunt. With your own key, you're Anthropic's customer: its Commercial Terms and Usage Policy apply to that account, and you're responsible for its costs and limits.
• Hunt uses the key only for your own work. A key you give Hunt is encrypted, never shown again (apart from its last 4 characters), and yours to remove whenever you like.
• You can keep the key on a computer you control instead, through Hunt's connector. The connector runs on an Anthropic API key, not a Claude.ai subscription login.

Acceptable use

Use Hunt for your own job search, and use it fairly. Don't:

• break the law, or use Hunt to harm, harass or deceive anyone;
• misrepresent yourself to employers, or submit anything that isn't true or isn't yours;
• send spam, or use Hunt to send applications in bulk or by automation;
• impersonate anyone, or use Hunt's AI to make someone believe they're dealing with a person when they're dealing with an AI;
• scrape or collect other people's personal data, or use Hunt to crawl a site against its terms;
• try to get into anyone else's account or data, get around Hunt's access controls or limits, or probe Hunt for weaknesses;
• overload, disrupt or attack Hunt, or upload malware;
• resell, rent or sublicense Hunt, sell access to your account or an invite, or offer Hunt to others as a service; or
• use Hunt's AI features in a way Anthropic's Usage Policy forbids.

Found a security problem? Please tell us at hello@usehunt.dev instead of testing further. If you find one by accident and report it in good faith without touching other people's data, we won't treat that as a breach of these terms.

Fees

Hunt takes no payments today. Here's how it works if that changes:

• Bringing your own AI stays free. Using your own key never adds an AI charge from Hunt.
• Hunt AI, where Hunt supplies the AI, will be a plan with an included allowance.
• You'll see the price, and agree to separate terms for it, before you pay anything. If something you already use starts to cost money, we'll tell you at least 30 days before any charge starts.
• You only ever pay for something you choose to turn on. You're never billed for anything you didn't turn on.
• Finding roles, tracking your search and preparing applications are never paywalled for someone who needs them, and they stay free when you bring your own AI.
• Leaving stays free, and you can export your data first.

If you use your own AI key, what your AI provider charges for that usage is between you and them.

Other sites and job postings

Hunt shows you roles and links to employers' own sites. Those sites and their application systems belong to the employers. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them, and we're not responsible for them.

Job postings come from public job boards and careers pages we don't control. So we can't promise that a role is still open, that it's real, that its details (pay, location, remote rules) are right, or that it fits you. And we can't promise you'll get an interview, an offer or a job. Check with the employer before you rely on anything important.

If a posting looks fake or like a scam, don't apply, and please tell us at hello@usehunt.dev.

Leaving, with your data

Ending a trial, a plan or an account never locks you out of your data.

You can leave anytime

You can stop using Hunt and delete your account whenever you like, for free and without giving a reason. Before you go, you can take everything with you: an export of all your data (apart from passwords and keys, which Hunt never hands back out), in a common, machine-readable format.

Export and account deletion are planned for the app's Settings. Until they're there, write to privacy@usehunt.dev and we'll export or delete your data for you.

When you delete content, Hunt stops using it at once. A fact you replace or forget is kept as history, unused, until you erase your facts. A role you delete leaves a small record so the next search doesn't bring it back. The privacy policy lists these.

When you delete your account, all of it goes: from the live service within 30 days, and from our backups within 30 days. Copies our providers hold, such as AI requests, follow their own retention, listed in the privacy policy. Anything on a computer you control, such as one running Hunt's connector, is yours to delete. We keep only a minimal record that you had an account, when you accepted these terms and when you left, the security records the privacy policy lists, and anything the law makes us keep.

If we end the beta

If we end the beta or shut Hunt down, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and a way to export your data before anything is deleted. If the law, a security risk or something outside our control makes that impossible, we'll give as much notice as we can, and you can still ask for a copy of your data.

If we suspend or close your account

We may limit, suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or when the law requires it. If we do:

• We'll tell you what we did and why, unless the law stops us.
• Unless it's for serious abuse, such as an attack on Hunt or illegal use, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and time to export first.
• Even if we close your account for abuse, you can still ask us for a copy of your data at privacy@usehunt.dev, unless the law stops us from giving it to you.
• You can ask us to look at it again by writing to hello@usehunt.dev. A person, not an automated tool, will review it.

Disclaimers

In plain words: Hunt is a beta. It will have bugs, and its AI can be wrong.

Apart from the promises in What Hunt does, and what it never does and the other commitments in these terms, Hunt is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no other warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. We don't promise that Hunt will be uninterrupted or error-free, that its output will be accurate, or that using it will get you a job.

We protect your data as the privacy policy describes, but no system is perfectly secure.

Some places don't allow these disclaimers, so some of them may not apply to you. Nothing here takes away rights the law gives you that a contract can't (see What we don't limit).

Limitation of liability

In plain words: Hunt is a free beta, so if something goes wrong, what we owe you is limited.

Except as set out in What we don't limit, and to the fullest extent the law allows: (a) we're not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, earnings, data or opportunities (such as a missed deadline, a role that closed, or an offer that didn't come), even if we were told they were possible; and (b) our total liability to you for all claims about Hunt or these terms is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US$100.

What we don't limit

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, for gross negligence, recklessness or wilful misconduct, or for anything else the law doesn't let us limit. If you're a consumer in the EU or the UK, you keep all the rights the law gives you that a contract can't take away.

Changes to these terms

We change these terms only for a good reason: to cover a new feature or a paid plan, to open the beta to more people, to follow the law or a regulator, to fix a security problem, or to make them clearer.

• Changes that matter: we'll tell you at least 30 days before they take effect, in the app and on this page, and say why.
• If you don't agree, you can stop using Hunt, export your data and delete your account before the change takes effect. If you keep using Hunt after it takes effect, the new terms apply to you.
• Price and data need your yes: for a change to what you pay or to how we use your data, we'll ask you to agree in the app first. We never start using content you've already put into Hunt for a new purpose without asking you.
• Small changes that don't affect your rights, like fixing a typo or making something clearer, take effect when we post them.

The same goes for Hunt itself. If we take away something you rely on, it will be for one of these reasons, or because a beta feature didn't work out. We'll tell you clearly, it won't cost you anything, and you can leave with your data.

The date at the top of this page shows when this version took effect.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes go to the state or federal courts in Pennsylvania.

If you're a consumer in the EU or the UK, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live. You can bring a claim in your local courts, and we can bring a claim against you only there.

General

• These terms, together with Anthropic's Usage Policy where they point to it and the terms of any paid feature you agree to, are the whole agreement between you and us about Hunt. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data.
• When these terms promise notice, we give it in the app and on this page, and in your Brief if you get one.
• If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
• If we don't enforce something straight away, we haven't given up the right to.
• You can't transfer your account or these terms to anyone else. We may transfer them to whoever runs Hunt next, for example a company formed to run it. If that happens, we'll tell you, and your rights under these terms stay the same.
